DRINK UP

One of the best things you can do for the TLC of your skin is drinking enough water. Since chronic dehydration takes a huge toll on our energy levels and the efficacy of our organs, it is only natural that our skin would suffer without proper hydration.

Drinking water helps keep your skin clean by flushing your system of toxins. By itself, this will significantly reduce the probability of acne breakouts and other skin problems. However, if you aren't drinking adequate amounts of water, even the best products designed to solve these problems will not be readily absorbed by your skin.

Hydration levels also affect the health of your hair: when you are low on fluids, your hair is prone to breakage, dryness, and frizz.

So how can you avoid all of these inconveniences and make sure you’re always feeling like your best self, both inside and out?

Drink up!

Read on below for our top tips on how to increase your daily water intake:

SET REMINDERS

"Drink 8 glasses of water " is a vague and overwhelming goal. Except if you break it down to: "OK, drink one glass right when I wake up...two glasses by 10 am...four by lunchtime...", we guarantee you'll hit your hydration goals in no time.

There are endless ways for you to set drinking reminders throughout the day. Since we're already repeating a bunch of things like brushing our teeth, snacking, disinfecting our hands (#2020), and getting up to go to the bathroom—you can associate each of these habits to guzzling some H2O. Before you know it, you'll have hit your daily intake.

Another simple option would be to set regular alarms on your phone, computer, or smartwatch every hour to remind you to down a glass (8oz) of water. Slice it up by the half-hour, two hours, four hours —whichever way works best for you!

INVEST IN A REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE

The cuter the bottle, the more you'll want to carry it around, and the more you will be incited to sip throughout the day!

Not only will you be reducing your plastic footprint, but you will find it much easier to carry your water and sip anywhere on-the-go (or on your morning commute from the bedroom to your home office).

Bonus tip: choosing sparkling water or adding a few drops of flavour in your bottle may make it more exciting to drink and help you steer clear of sugary drinks (which are NOT doing your skin any favours).

TREAT YOURSELF

The health benefits of hydration, such as glowing skin, are rewards on their own.

But...we could all use an extra treat here and there!

There's nothing we believe in more than giving ourselves some love, especially after hitting some goals. Commit to your daily water quota and make it a rule that if you achieve your goal each day of the week. Then reward yourself with a little extra something: that overpriced latte you keep eyeing, a long bubble bath, your favourite sweets or an at-home facial, for example.

After hitting your hydration goals for multiple weeks, you can reward yourself with something even more significant, like one of our favourite hydrating face products:

Lastly, please note that water intake depends on personal activity level, geographical location, health status, and much more. However, there are general guidelines that advise men to consume between 8 to 14 glasses (64-112 oz) of water per day, and women to aim for 6 to 12 glasses (48-96 oz).

Until next time, stay hydrated!
