Immuno-Rituals
As we face uncertain times surrounding COVID-19, we asked Sherina Jamal (Owner, Founder & Educator) from Beauty Through Balance, a luxury holistic-based skin & wellness brand from Vancouver B.C., to share her vision on the importance of self-care rituals to support wellbeing and immune system health, in a natural way. Sherina believes that this is the perfect opportunity to incorporate immuno-rituals for improved balance, calmness and protection.
“This is a wonderful day. I have never seen this one before.” - Maya Angelou
Here are Sherina’s “immuno-ritual” tips to add to your daily and weekly routine:
15-MINUTE MORNING MEDITATION & GRATITUDE PRACTICE
To get your day going with clarity, a sense of calm and optimism, this morning ritual can help to boost your immune system. It’s how I start my day, every day. I like to alternate between meditation (often guided by Deepak Chopra) and silence, with healing frequency music. Prior to meditation, I always apply an aromatherapy oil to my palms and rub them together (about 30 seconds), then hands cupping my nose I take 5-6 deep and mindful breaths. This encourages relaxation and optimizes the healing property benefits of the oils. My personal favourites are Green Tea Indian Spice and Pink Lotus and here’s what you should know about each:
Green Tea Indian Spice: is an aromatherapy oil that can be applied to targeted areas of pain and tension to provide healing benefits. It can also be applied to acupressure points such as wrists and temples to help promote relaxation, mood balance and ease symptoms caused from headaches and jet lag. Due to its heavenly scent many also use this as a perfume oil.
Pink Lotus: this aromatherapy oil is best used on acupressure points to promote calm and anti-stress. It can also be used as a perfume. This 100% natural product contains active ingredients traditionally used in Ayurvedic healing from India, including rose, sandalwood, pink lotus, jasmine and others.
BATH TIME
I love bath time and can’t live without it! It’s profoundly healing with the right products and atmosphere. To set the mood I like to dim the lights, use candles, an aromatherapy diffuser and play soft music which helps me relax, find calmness and focus on mindful healing. My favorite bath product is Pacific Seaweed Replenishing Soak. It’s manufactured with raw hand-harvested sustainable Pacific Seaweed from the Northern Coast of B.C. and is packed with vital minerals, vitamins, fatty acids and other micronutrients. Seaweed is one of nature’s most healing and nutritious superfoods, that can help to reduce pain, improve circulation, reduce inflammation and support a healthy immune system. In addition to this product containing 98% organic seaweed, it also contains rosemary, mint, marjoram and lavender essential oils. I use this soak 2-3 times a week.
FOREST NATURE WALK
A silent walk in nature is something I enjoy profoundly and have been practicing more of, especially lately as the weather warms up. I find it’s a great way to detach from day-to-day monotony and it helps me to reconnect with the true healing powers of nature. It can also help to boost the immune system, with exposure to the trees and vitamin D from the sun. When I can’t get out for a walk, I use our Canadian Wilderness Aromatherapy Oil in my diffuser and the Canadian Wilderness Replenishing Body Polish in the shower. These two products contain restorative and healing pure Canadian Forest evergreen essences, that transport me back to the sensory experience of a fresh forest. These products also offer immune support and are very beneficial in reducing feelings of stress and anxiety.
HOME SPA-ING
Since you can’t get to the spa, bring the spa to you! Caring for the skin on the body is just as important as the face - and holistic body care can be a profound form of relaxation and healing with the right products. A couple of my go-to products (which only takes a quick 10 minutes) transport me back to that relaxing spa experience. I enjoy using our Green Tea Seaweed Salt Glow in the shower to detoxify twice a week. Once I step out of the shower I use the Glacial Revitalizing Mist on my face and body, followed by our luxurious Pacific Seaweed Body Butter. Not only does the bathroom smell like a spa, but my skin feels ultra soft, hydrated and nourished. Also, it’s an easy way to zone-out, reboot and recenter.
I hope these tips get you inspired to practice more self-care, to keep your mind, body and spirit in healing mode. Don’t forget that self-care also includes healthy healing foods and exercise to support the lymphatic system.
In good health,
Sherina Jamal
