Getting Your Skin Holiday-Ready
Getting your skin holiday-ready involves just the right of amount of prep and a bit of TLC. If you’re looking to put your best face forward this holiday season, here’s our BSE-approved professional advice and recommendations for achieving a radiant and healthy complexion for your holiday gatherings.
4 TO 6 WEEKS BEFORE
The timing for starting a holiday skincare preparation routine depends on the specific concerns you want to address and the products you're incorporating. A general guideline for introducing new products or ingredients into your routine involves long-term preparation––AKA, 4-6 weeks before the holiday season. This allows your skin to adjust and minimizes the risk of irritation or breakouts.
If you're planning on getting a professional facial or treatment (for a more intensive and targeted approach), we recommend scheduling it 4-6 weeks before the event. This will allow for any redness or potential side effects to subside.
You’ll also want to start using targeted serums and active ingredients, such as vitamin C or hyaluronic acid, around 4 weeks before an event to start seeing the long-term benefits.

2 TO 4 WEEKS BEFORE
If you've decided to incorporate a chemical exfoliant––glycolic acid, lactic acid, or an AHA/BHA––to promote cell turnover and achieve smoother, brighter skin, we advise you to start using it 2-4 weeks before any event. This not only gives your skin time to adapt but for your skin’s cellular renewal process the chance to kickstart into action.
That being said, remember to patch-test new products and introduce them into your routine gradually. We also wouldn’t recommend trying a brand new ingredient the week before a big event in case you find yourself fighting skin purging or excessive irritation.
1 TO 2 DAYS BEFORE
In the few last days before your event, using a hydrating or brightening mask (such as the Vivier Skin Ultra Hydrating Mask) is the best last-minute boost. However, make sure you've tested the mask before to avoid any adverse reactions.
CONSISTENTLY….
Maintaining a consistent skincare routine throughout the entire preparation period is key to seeing positive results. For example, use a gentle, hydrating cleanser––like the Alastin Skincare Gentle Cleanser––day and night to remove impurities without stripping the skin.
Make sure to keep your skin well-hydrated and moisturized (AM & PM), and always use an SPF (year-round) to help prevent sun damage and maintain skin health. Using an eye cream and caring for your lips with a nourishing lip balm will also contribute to preventing dryness and a dulled appearance.
And last but certainly not least, stay well-hydrated, get enough sleep, and make sure to manage stress to support your overall skin health. That extra care and attention make all the difference!
Until next time,
