5 MUST HAVES THIS FALL

If you are noticing a few skin changes lately, there’s no need to panic. As the weather changes, it is absolutely normal for your skin to be thrown a little bit out of whack. Signs of dehydration and a little more sensitivity are entirely normal!

Not too long ago, we shared with you 5 skincare tips to keep in mind in the fall in order to help you prevent some of the common skin concerns that arise when the colder weather comes looming around the corner. With that in mind, we also decided to put together a quick list of some of our essential skincare products that you should definitely reach for this season:

CREAM CLEANSER

Your cleansing (double cleansing!) routine shouldn’t change much in the fall. However, like with moisturizer, it is wise to opt for a creamy cleanser that will be gentle on the skin barrier as fall weather get drier.  You want to avoid harsh detergents or fragrances that irritate and strip natural oils from the skin. Here are a few of our best-sellers in the fall:

BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE LOTION P50T $32.50 - $118

IS CLINICAL CLEANSING COMPLEX $59

YONKA PARIS CLEANSING MILK $45

SERUMS

You always want to choose your serums depending on your skin type and skin concerns. However, keep in mind that in the fall and wintertime, nearly everyone can benefit from a hydraulic acid serum for an extra layer of moisture. Serums containing glycolic or lactic acids, which tend to be gentler, are also great options––especially if you are pairing them with nighttime chemical exfoliants such as AHA, BHAs or retinols.

GRAYDON SUPERFOOD SERUM $87

INSTITUT DERMED GLYCOLIC SERUM $69

BIOPHORA LACTIC ACID SERUM $70

A RICHER MOISTURIZER

The dry air caused by our heating systems as well as the drop in humidity means your skin is begging for hydration. We recommend swapping gel-like moisturizers for richer, creamier nighttime formulas that can allow your skin to absorb and lock in adequate moisture. Hydrated skin will keep fine lines, wrinkles, and blemishes at bay as it balances out sebum production and protects your skin barrier.

SKINCEUTICALS TRIPLE LIPID RESTORE $157

ZO SKIN HEALTH HYDRATING CRÈME $143

SPF

If there’s one thing that shouldn’t change, it’s your SPF routine! While you may not need to slather your face with an SPF 60 anymore like you would if you were sitting poolside, you still need to protect yourself from the harmful UVA/UVB rays that can cause skin cancer and premature aging. A great option is to use at least an SPF 30 that can come from your daily moisturizer. Here are a few of our favourites:

IMAGE SKIN CARE PREVENTION+ DAILY MATTE MOISTURIZER SPF 32+ $72.50

ZO SKIN HEALTH SUNSCREEN + PRIMER SPF 30 $95

ELTAMD UV DAILY TINTED SPF 40 $57

HYDRATING MASKS

While clay masks are loved for their attributes, but they can also leave skin feeling dry and tight during the colder season. If you're looking to indulge in a self-care mask session during the fall, we recommend reaching for a hydrating, creamier formula instead. For example:

DI MORELLI HYDRATING FACE MASK $40

VIVIER SKIN ULTRA HYDRATING MASK $70

IMAGE SKIN CARE HYDRATING ENZYME MASQUE $64

And speaking of masks: don’t forget your strands, either! Our hair also suffers from lack of moisture in the winter and it is crucial to give it some TLC to steer clear of breakage.

HEMP CODE HAIR MASK $38

In conclusion, keep in mind that less is often more. Those with sensitive skin, for example, will “benefit from decreasing exfoliation in colder weather — both in frequency and strength,” explains Dr. Hadley King, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City. Sticking to the basics, keeping it gentle and using the right, medical-grade products will always remain a winning formula!

Until next time,
