HQ Makeup
High-quality skincare pairs best with high-quality makeup. It’s only logical, right? If you’re out here, using the best skincare products in the game, you also want to make sure you keep any irritation or blemishes at bay by using high-quality makeup products that won’t ruin your hard work.
In light of this, we reached out to 2 incredible women in the medical-grade skincare game so they could share some of their knowledge with us. We chatted a bit about their brands and also about why opting for their products is a life-changing makeup experience.
Without further ado, here’s a sneak peek of our chat!
Q1: Why should we prioritize medical-grade cosmetics as opposed to drugstore makeup?
Medical-grade cosmetics provide several benefits. For one, they contain skin conditioning agents and do not contain harmful fragrances, dyes, chemicals, or parabens. “These kinds of products are formulated with healing and non-irritating properties with only essential ingredients, which is a crucial feature for post-procedure application”, adds Judi Argue of Oxygenetix.
Many include adequate sun protection and are developed to soothe and protect the skin while camouflaging redness, bruising, and abrasion.
Q2: Does makeup from more expensive brands last longer?
More expensive makeup brands usually have better pigmentation and higher-quality preservatives, if needed.
Laurie Kindrachuk of Jane Irendale Canada explains how their products specifically contain a pure mineral pigment with no added filler (such as talc, for instance). “This means our foundations and concealers exceptional long-lasting coverage on the skin,” she explains. “Where preservatives are needed, we use a combination of natural preservatives always excluding parabens and phenoxyethanol”.
Judi, on the other hand, tells us that just because a brand is more expensive doesn’t necessarily mean it will last longer. However, she adds, if the product is well-formulated, textures may be more concentrated, and less product may be used in each application––saving you dollars in the long run.
Q3: What differentiates the ingredients in professional makeup as opposed to mass-market brands?
Ingredients in professional makeup are non-comedogenic, meaning they are oil-free and don’t clog pores, explains Judi. This is crucial for those who fight against acne and who continue to find themselves struggling even after overhauling their whole skincare regimen!
These ingredient lists are also fragrance-free, hydrating (as they allow retention of natural fluids), hypoallergenic (less allergic reactions than with other cosmetics) and non-irritating––the holy grail for sensitive skins!
Jane Iredale makes a point to use only “high-performance natural ingredients including skin-loving liposomes, stem cells, and peptides with certified organic botanicals––it makes all of the difference!” Laurie adds.
Q4: What makes your brand/product stand out compared to drugstore makeup brands?
Judi: Oxygenetix Breathable Treatment Foundation is a foundation that covers, heals, and minimizes redness of irritated or inflamed skin. Originally designed for doctors, Oxygenetix Foundation camouflages and treats a wide variety of skin problems: wounds, rashes, cracked, dry skin, acne scars, rosacea, and other skin injuries and conditions. It is however perfect for daily use and is loved by hundreds of thousands of consumers, Hollywood makeup artists for TV and film, and A-list celebrities alike.
When patients are re-assured that post-procedure care includes safely camouflaging any evidence of treatment or surgery, they are more likely to go about their daily activities without feeling self-conscious.
Laurie: Making a clean product is one thing, but making a clean product that delivers beautiful long-lasting results every single time is much harder to do. We are so proud to say this has been accomplished in every Jane Iredale product, and as soon as you try it, you’ll be able to tell for yourself!
